Discovering one of the most important art collections in Lombardy

Located in the storied Palazzo Martinengo da Barco, the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo is one of the city’s main art museums and home to one most significant art collections in Lombardy. The exhibition brings together masterpieces ranging from the Renaissance to the 19th century, offering an overview of some of the high points in the history of Italian art.

UNESCO World Heritage Site

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 – together with the “Brixia Roman archaeological area” – as part of “Longobards in Italy: Places of Power (568–774 A.D.), Santa Giulia Museum is one of the most significant testaments to the city’s history, where Lombard and Roman heritage are intertwined in a single cultural journey.

Standing in the historical heart of Brescia, the magnificent ruins of ancient Brixia are one of the most important archaeological sites in northern Italy. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 as part of “Longobards in Italy: Places of Power (568–774 A.D.), the complex testifies to the prominent role played by the city in Roman times. Situated along the Via Gallica where the Valle Camonica and the Val Trompia meet, between Lake Iseo and Lake Garda, Brescia was in fact one of the peninsula’s main centres, a position further enhanced by its proximity to a vast plain made particularly fertile by the agricultural reforms introduced during the Augustan period.

The Paolo and Carolina Zani Foundation for art and culture offers visitors the chance to explore its Home Museum and garden, situated in Caellatica Cellatica, between the city of Brescia and the southern tip of Lake Iseo.
The collection on display in the Home Museum features over 1,200 paintings, sculptures, works of applied art and furnishings. The masterpieces on display include works by Tiepolo, Guardi, Longhi and Boucher, alongside exquisite Baroque and Rococo furnishings – mainly French and Venetian – and extraordinary works of applied art from the 17th and 18th centuries.

The Benedictine Olivetan Abbey dedicated to Saints Nicholas and Paul VI is without doubt the best-known religious complex in Franciacorta.
It was founded in 1090 by Cluniac monks and is part of the European Cluniac tour.
Transferred to the Olivetans in 1446, it was rebuilt between 1450 and 1534, when it became a Renaissance-style abbey. Brescia’s leading painters of the time, including Gambara, Romanino, Moretto, Da Marone and Cossali, contributed to its transformation.

Now in its fifteenth year, the Tener-a-Mente Vittoriale Festival is one of the most eagerly awaited cultural events of the Italian summer.
